Number of terrorist incidents for 2009 (Januar...

When conservatives correctly pointed out that one disastrous terrorist attack and another catastrophic but thwarted attack both happened during President Obama’s first term in office, because his agencies overlooked the perpetrators’ jihadist intentions or failed to act on relevant intelligence, liberals responded with an argument that was discredited nearly a decade ago: “But 9/11 happened on George Bush’s watch!”

Obama supporters mocked Rudy Giuliani’s recent claim to George Stephanopolous “We had no domestic attacks under Bush,” stubbornly avoiding Giuliani’s obvious implication that he was speaking post-9/11.  Until last week, Democrats loved to excoriate Giuliani for making endless references to the terrorist attack that occurred while he was mayor of New York; now they claim he forgets it happened.  Which is it?

Conservatives’ point is that Obama has forgotten the lessons of 9/11, which Bush did not have available to him until, surprisingly—9/11.  The Ft. Hood and Flight 253 attacks happened in the first year of Obama’s administration, and 9/11 happened in the first year of Bush’s administration, but Obama had the example of 9/11 to learn from, and Bush did not.  (Even if you count the thwarted attack by the shoe bomber in December 2001, that bomber tried to strike just months after 9/11, when fully revamped security procedures were not running as smoothly as they are now; also, the bomber used the novel, unprecedented technique of wearing the bomb on his person so that it would not be detected by luggage screeners.)

Obama not only had the example of 9/11, he had seven years in which to witness and debate and vote on the implementation of the policies his predecessor devised that kept the country safe in the years after 9/11.  Obama denounced and campaigned against these tactics every chance he got.  He hasn’t revoked all of the Bush policies—upon assuming the Presidency, he must have received access to hair-raising intelligence that made him realize the suicidal folly of reversing Bush on everything—but he has slackened up enough, rhetorically and policy-wise, that our security standards have slipped and our enemies have become emboldened.

It is not enough to say that Obama has forgotten the lessons of 9/11.  He has actively rejected them.  He has argued that doing the opposite of what Bush did will keep us safer.  We are seeing how well the Obama Doctrine is working out in his first 11 months in office.

Another error in the “Bush-was-bad-so-Obama’s-off-the-hook” argument is that Bush did not do anything to actively facilitate the occurrence of 9/11.  In contrast, the Ft. Hood shootings were aided by the politically correct refusal of the U.S. Army—under Commander-in-Chief Obama—to recognize murderous jihadist sentiments expressed by Major Nidal Hasan openly and repeatedly while in medical school and residency, and the promotion Hasan received despite his poor performance reviews.  The Flight 253 near-attack was made possible by the Obama administration’s failure to act on numerous warnings available to it, such as Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab’s father having called the U.S. Embassy to report him, Abdulmutallab’s not having a passport or luggage, and his having bought a one-way ticket with cash.

But there’s an even more damning flaw to the contention that Bush should have been able to prevent 9/11, and is therefore as bad as or worse than Obama on national security.  Namely: just what would Bush opponents have preferred that he do in his first eight months in office to prevent terrorist acts, when they now scream bloody murder at the slightest suggestion of profiling at airports, accuse Bush of being Big Brother for trying to monitor terrorist communications, and express their clear disapproval of any war Bush started abroad to target Al-Qaeda?  Are liberals implying that they would have been fine with Bush doing all of these things in a pre-9/11 world?  They’re not even fine with The One doing these things in a post-9/11 world.

The left have been digging up examples of localized attacks carried out by truly isolated (not Abdulmutallab-style “isolated”) loonies—such as Bruce Ivins’ anthrax-laced letters to news broadcasters in September 2001, Hesham Hadayet’s shooting of two Israelis at LAX in July 2002, the Beltway sniper attacks in October 2002—as proof that Bush didn’t keep us safe.  Ignore for the moment that when each of these incidents happened, the same people criticized Bush for using these events to “hype” the threat of terrorism to justify extra security measures.  Instead ask: what level of government intervention into our lives would have been necessary to prevent every one of these attacks?  And how likely is it that liberals would have supported Bush’s carrying out such interventions at the time?

The Demise of the Rule of Law

With Obama’s ascension to the highest office in the land, America is quickly turning into two separate and unequal factions – the elites who decide the rules and the peons who are obliged to follow them.

Our political elites are currently crafting a drastic overhaul of a health care system 77% of Americans say they are happy with. They have decreed that all Americans will now be subject to the new health care rules. Those that don’t will be subject to $1,000 fines. Congress itself, however, will be exempt from the rules they are demanding the rest of us follow. Congressional members have their own health care plan, one that is not available to the rest of us peons.

Oh, and the unions, who have attained temporary elite status by virtue of their campaign contributions, will be granted special rules allowing them to be exempt from the proposed taxes on health care that will be paid by the peons in flyover country. (That’s you and me)

Our politicians and the politically connected environmental elite are demanding all Americans drive smaller cars, use different light bulbs and pretty much alter their way of life to conform to the elite’s stated, but misleading, attempt to ‘save the earth.’ At the same time, these elites fly around in the same private jets they demonize CEO’s for using. To say nothing of the fleets of SUVs currently in use by the very people who would deny them to the rest of us peons.

President Obama is lecturing Americans to tighten their economic belts while he continues spending our tax dollars at an unsustainable rate. Quadrupling the deficit, with no end in sight. Very clearly indicating that the rules imposed on us peons don’t extend to the elites.

The Federal Trade Commission has announced it is going to begin going after bloggers who make false claims about products and/or don’t fully disclose conflicts of interest. This crackdown does not extend to the elites, who continue to make false claims, like Obama’s patently false statement, “I’ll be honest, there are countries where a single-payer system works pretty well”. Apparently the media elite won’t be subject to this crackdown either, unless, of course, they dare to challenge a liberal premise. (Sarah Palin comes to mind)

The elites in Congress will also be exempt from these new FTC dictates, as they continue to shut down inquiries into false claims Nancy Pelosi made about the CIA. Who continue to shut down amendments to audit the Federal Reserve. A host of democrat politicians and liberal advocacy groups also get a free pass to make false and misleading claims about health care, cap and trade, global warming, etc. Once again, the elites exempt themselves from the rules they impose on the rest of us peons.

The Obama administration is now actively involved in doubling the number of IRS agents to better enforce tax regulation and enforcement on the peons who live in flyover country and the capitalists who dare to make a, gasp, profit. The elites entrusted to run the IRS, however, are exempt from these rules, garnering nothing more than phony expressions of ‘deep concern’ when they’re caught failing to pay their own taxes. Ditto for the numerous Democrat appointees who have failed to abide by the IRS rules the rest of us peons are forced to live by.

President Obama, as a Senator, actually sponsored legislation requiring 30 days notice and a valid reason given before Inspector Generals could be fired. The very rule he sponsored, however, doesn’t apply to Obama, as he gave IG Gerald Walpin one hour notice to quit or be fired when he started investigating a friend of Obama’s.

President Obama lectures the world that “suppressing ideas never succeeds in making them go away” while, on the same day, demonizing Fox News for daring to question what he says.

President Obama has ruled that America has no right to meddle in Iran’s affairs. Apparently this rule doesn’t apply to Israel, where Obama is actively meddling in Israel’s affairs in order to get them to halt settlements. Or to the coup in the Honduras, which Obama was quick to label ‘not-legal.’

We are now a nation with two sets of rules. One set for the elites, which is flexible and arbitrary, and another set of rules for the rest of us peons. The rule of law is now open to interpretation and discretionary enforcement, based on the transient whims of the reigning elite. Translation: There is no more rule of law. We should all be very scared.

Obama Is Not Telling The Truth

Obama is increasingly resembling the errant husband, who, when caught in bed with another woman by his wife blandly asserts, “What woman? Who are you going to believe – me or the evidence of your own eyes?”

Obama is asking Americans to ignore the evidence of their own eyes and believe him. After all, he is the President of the United States, which implies honor, integrity, and character. Or used to.

Calling the president a liar is a serious charge. But either Obama is lying to America or he is seriously misinformed, which is even scarier.

With a straight face, President Obama recently stated, “I am seriously committed to fiscal responsibility.” Hey, maybe the left redefined fiscal responsibility while I was asleep last night, but Obama’s claim just doesn’t accord with reality. Obama has added more to our national debt than all other U.S. presidents — combined. And is in the process of adding another $50 billion that we don’t have, as you read this.

Adding insult to injury, Obama then went on to say, “I believe government should be lean; government should be efficient. I believe government should leave people free to make the choices they think are best…”

That statement is at serious odds with Obama’s actions. In Obama’s 19 months in office, the government, under his direction, has taken over the auto industry, the banking industry, the health care-industry, the student loan industry, etc. This means that the government will be making the choices consumers used to make. (Can you spell Chevy Volt?) How in the world does this equate with lean government and more consumer choice?

Obama promised consumers that they would be able to keep their own doctor under his health-care overhaul. Oops. He mis-spoke. Obama promised that ObamaCare would reduce health care costs. Oops Wrong again. A new government report just confirmed what most regular people knew all along: The nation’s health care tab will go up — not down — as a result of ObamaCare. Insurers plan to raise premiums on some Americans as a direct result of the health overhaul as soon as next month.

The president of the United States is either lying or suffering a severe case of cognitive dissonance.

And he is not alone. More and more of our public servants are severely undermining trust in government by making bald statements that have no basis in truth. Case in point: Harry Reid stated yesterday that he “had nothing to do with” the bad economy. Hmm… Inquiring minds want to know, well then whose fault is it? Answer: George Bush’s. Adding insult to injury, Reid fully expects us to believe him.

Outright falsehoods by our elected officials are so numerous as to become the norm. People joke that, “You know a politician is lying when his lips move.” Ha, Ha.

Maybe this behavior is the norm inside the beltway, especially since the media and fact-checkers are mostly absent. But for the majority of Americans, a lie is a lie. And just because most politicians lie, does not make it right.

We the people have the right to enough information to make informed decisions. And we’re not getting it. Instead, we’re getting false information. Remember Barney Frank telling America that Fannie Mae was in good shape, just before it crashed, taking down our economy with it? If Frank were in the private sector, he could be criminally liable.

Obama is doing the exact same thing. As our economy continues to sink, Obama is out on the stump touting “Recovery Summer.” And because he is the president, millions of Americans will take him at his word. To their detriment.

Here’s a newsflash. The economy is not recovering. The U.S. Federal Reserve reports “widespread signs” that the economic recovery is slowing and economic growth for the rest of this year and next was revised down for a third month in a row by a panel of about 50 economists. My question is, what recovery?
In a court of law, being caught lying just once is enough to call into question the whole of a person’s testimony. In the court of public opinion, lying is just another political tactic. Yawn.

By not calling a spade a spade, the media is complicit is enabling the torrent of untruths that daily issue forth from our leaders. By blindly accepting what Obama says, Americans are enabling him. Enabling a man who is deliberately telling us that black is white and if we don’t believe him then we are racists, homophobic, stupid, or Republican meanies. This is not acceptable.

I do not trust Obama. And I will continue to point out why my fellow Americans shouldn’t trust him either. He has broken faith with us too many times. And for that, I believe he is not fit to govern us.
